Maroon 5, previously known as Kara's Flowers, still has several original members to the group. The band was actually originated in California by several high school students who had a mutual love for music and grooving on tunes. Those original members were Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden, and Ryan Dusick. The group was originally named Kara's Flowers because these high school boys had a mutual crush on a girl named Kara, and thus the group was born. After several album attempts by Kara's Flowers, the group was not able to gain ground and the members actually split to attend college. Two of the members, Levine and Carmichael, left California to attend college in New York. This was a defining moment for the history of the group that would become Maroon 5 as Levine and Carmichael picked up some musical influences while out East that would change the sound of the group for the better. 

After a time attending college out East, Levine and Carmichael returned to California and got back in touch with their original group members. Only this time they would add James Valentine to the mix to play guitar which allowed Levine to be the sole front man and voice for the band. This combined with their new sound edge allowed them to launch their first success as Maroon 5, Sounds About Jane in 2002. 

With all the excitement and touring that Songs About Jane caused, the groups original drummer Dusick was injured and the group brought in a new band member, Matt Flynn to cover the drums. The group continued to roll out successful albums changing their sound as they went. This is in line with front man Adam Levine who loves all kinds of music and doesn't believe in sticking to one genre or being beholden to one genre, and it seemed to work. Maroon 5's fan base stuck with them through their changes and are still going strong today.
